Man Utd star Cleverley accepts libel damages from Sun

The Sun has apologized and agreed to pay "a substantial sum in damages" for the Manchester United footballer Tom Cleverley for falsely accusing him of sending a text message asking women for sex.

In a statement read by QC David Price, on behalf of Cleverley, the High Court in London heard Wednesday how the Sun had published a series of articles entitled "Man U have asked me to 5:00 to sex (even if it comes) "August 16, 2011 and on its website.

According to the statement, the article says that Cleverley "had met a girl at a nightclub in Blackpool and bombarded with text messages to his offer of sex."

"Mr. Cleverley is then argued that the girl had a B & B and introduced him to his duty and did a Google search on his name to show him that he was a footballer.

Price said: "The plaintiff was very upset and embarrassed by the article was not about to allow the item to go unanswered, so we brought this claim for defamation .. " Cleverley lawyer said he had never met the girl involved and the night of the incident was at home with his girlfriend in Manchester.
